ME AND MAMA MIA Eleven-year old Rikke lives with her father in an apartment in a tumble- down part of inner Copenhagen. She enjoys her friends and her school, and is particularli interested in her new school mistress. She hasn't quite gotten over her moth- er's recent death and even though her father does his best Rikke often daydreams about her mother com- ing back. At school she learns the myth of Pega- sus, the horse with wings, who brought the dead back from heaven, and becomes totally enthralled with this story as well as quite determined to have her own horse. So she enters a breakfast cereal com- petition and wins first prize: a real pony! Naturally her father is far from plea- sed with the thought of keeping a pony in a big city but his neighbours talk him into letting Rikke keep it - and this turns the neighbourhood up- side down. The local bum, whom eve- rybody has been quite wary of, turns out to be areal expert on horses, and when Rikke's teacher pays a visit she not only makes friends with Rikke but also with Rikke's father... This is a film about dreams and about believing in them hard enough to make them come true.
